GoldSeek Radio Nugget - John Williams: "Owning Physical Gold Is the Best Hedge You’ve Got Against Inflation"

John Williams, Shadowstats.com founder, says, "Owning physical gold is the BEST hedge against inflation..."

- Is the domestic economy on the cusp of recession caused by rate hikes?

Williams says:

Right now, the economy is in a terrible shape, contrary to some of the happy hype out of Washington. And most of the problems that we're seeing right now are direct result of what the Fed has done with its policy. I mean, if you go back a little bit in time here, the Fed was trying to attack inflation. Problem with the inflation, what was driving the inflation was an overheating economy.

So they raised interest rates to kill the economy. And which is [what] raising interest rates did, but the economy was not overheating and that was not what was driving inflation. What was driving inflation was a tremendous surge in the money supply that the Fed pumped into the system after the pandemic hit.

- When will the inflation genie be contained?
- Higher rates hinder economic growth.
- As long as the inflation theme persists, gold investing will succeed.

"Owning physical gold is the best hedge you've got against inflation. And I'm talking about owning it, having it, holding it. The inflation as reported by the government is understated. Over time, gold tracks the real inflation. And let me put it this way: central banks can always intervene, the Treasury can always intervene and knock gold down but as long as you've got a bad inflation problem, which we have and I don't see it getting much better, it should generally be a very bullish environment for the physical precious metal."
